Sometimes even defeat can feel like a victory when you play well. Despite their best efforts, Knutsford Volleyball Club eventually fell to a 3-0 defeat away to Liverpool. Regardless of the loss, Knutsford were always in the game in what was the best match of the season.
Despite having home advantage and two more big hitters, Knutsford matched Liverpool point for point in the first set, even taking the lead in the early stages! After making a strategic change to their game plan and bringing on their specialist setter and add more fire power, Liverpool eventually did enough to break away and win the first set 25-21.
Set two had a very familiar feel as Knutsford raced into an early lead. Fighting for every single point, Knutsford ran Liverpool to the wire and had the match point 3 different times. Making technical changes, Liverpool pushed their best hitter to front court and finally managed to take the second set 28-26. The third set followed the same pattern of the rest of the game with Knutsford even taking a blood injury but never gave up. As Knutsford pushed and pushed, Liverpool eventually got in front for the first time and never looked back as they ran out eventual winners to take the set 25-19 and claim the 3-0 victory.
Even though Knutsford were beaten, Graham was delighted with the overall team performance and even described the match as the best of the season, with the defeat even tasting like victory!
